Critical Operating Guidelines

  • Cooling: As a microchannel-cooled device, thermal management is critical. Operation requires a stable supply of deionized water at the specified flow rate and pressure. Failure to provide adequate cooling will lead to immediate device failure. Please see the FAQ tab for detailed water quality requirements.
  • Power Supply/Diode Driver: A stable, constant-current (CC) laser diode driver is mandatory. Do not use a generic voltage power supply, as current spikes or ripple can cause catastrophic optical damage (COD) to the laser facets.   • Handling: This is an unmounted semiconductor device and is sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD). Standard ESD precautions, including the use of wrist straps and grounded work surfaces, must be followed at all times.

Interpreting Specification Data

The values presented in the specification table are typical performance figures measured under controlled laboratory conditions. All data is measured at a case temperature of 25°C. Performance may vary depending on the actual operating temperature, thermal interface, and driver stability.

Safety Information

This is a high-power Class 4 laser device. Avoid eye or skin exposure to direct or scattered radiation. All personnel entering the operating area must wear appropriate laser safety goggles rated for the 808nm wavelength range.

What are the water cooling requirements for this microchannel stack?

To prevent clogging and electro-corrosion, this microchannel cooler requires high-purity, deionized water with a conductivity of 2.5±0.5 µS/cm and a pH value between 5.5 and 8.0. The water must also be filtered to remove particles larger than 5µm.

What flow rate and pressure should the water chiller provide?

You must provide a minimum water flow rate of ≥1.8 L/min to ensure adequate heat dissipation. The water pressure should be maintained at less than 5 Bar to avoid damaging the microchannel structure.

What type of laser diode driver is needed for this stack?

This is a high-power CW (Continuous Wave) device. You will need a specialized laser diode driver capable of supplying a constant current of up to 65A at a voltage of up to 12V. It is critical to use a stable, low-noise power supply to avoid current surges.

The datasheet mentions “Low Smile”. What does this mean?

“Smile” is a measurement of the straightness of the laser-emitting bar on the diode stack. A “Low Smile” value indicates that the bar is very flat and straight, resulting in a more uniform beam. This is a key indicator of high manufacturing quality and leads to better performance.
